NGO seeks support for less-privileged children
The Programme Director, Resource Sharing Network, Mrs. Tosin Taiwo, has urged private organisations to take interest in the education of the less- privileged children.
She said that despite the various
challenges befalling the education sector, if everyone strived to make a
difference in their own little way, it would create a ripple effect.
Taiwo made this call during the
donation of educational items to pupils of Igbogila Primary School,
Ipaja, Lagos State, organised by the United Parcel Services. She added
that a large percentage of the less-privileged children desire to learn
but don’t have the necessary materials for school.
“The aim of today’s event is to promote
education and motivate young children to take interest in their
education. In this school, Igbogila, there are so many orphans. Most of
them don’t have school bags and sandals. These gift items we are giving
them may be little, but I know it would go a long way in affecting their
lives positively.
“I urge private organisations to support
schools such as this. If we all make a difference in our own little
way, this world will be a better place. Every child has the potential to
excel, all they need is encouragement,” she said.
The Head Teacher, Igbogila Primary
School, Mrs. Mary Ochiama, said that she was deeply grateful to the NGO
for taking interest in her pupils and also urged them to keep up the
good work.
She said, “I am so happy. I really
appreciate the NGO for its kind gesture. I’m sure the pupils are so
happy. I pray that God will bless them.”
However, Ochiama called on parents not
to relent in performing their responsibilities. “Some children come to
school without books or food. During break time, they are so hungry.
This is not right. Some parents believe government should provide
everything for their children. The government can’t do everything; you
as a parent has roles that you must perform which include feeding and
clothing your children.”
